1950's Estey Reed Organ
Year: 1950's
Brand: Estey
Model: Reed Organ
Class: Keyboard
Owner: Sean French

The little organ just needed the knee lever repaired.

Once i opened it up it was evident that there was water and rodent damage. Mice or rats had shredded some of the batting and fiber board.

The unit was cleaned out and I opened the fan chamber to look for further damage. One of the center baffles had broken loose, it was secured and the unit resealed.

The broken knee lever could not be repaired and a new piece would need to be fabricated.

A new arm was cut from a piece of oak and the knee lever was formed from 3/4 in pine and stained to match the unit.

One of the felt seals in the rear of the unit had deteriorated and was replaced.

Several of the reeds were not sounding properly. I marked the offending keys and the reeds were cleaned and adjusted.

the unit was thoroughly cleaned.
